The Safe Travels Hawaii Program was rolled out in September and drove visitor activity up dramatically in late 2020.

Retail, food service and tourism-related employment numbers continued to underscore the challenges facing the state. Retail jobs were down an estimated 6.9% in 2020, while accommodation jobs were down 46.5% and food service jobs down 30.8%.
